Yang Mulia Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Matsatejo bin Sokiaw, Deputy Minister of Energy today, 20th September 2020 officiated the Fill Safe, Feel Safe 2020 campaign. Aimed at promoting the safe practices at the retail stations, the campaign took place at Hajah Dayang Hajah Dayang Badariah dan Anak-Anak Retail Station, Jalan Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah, Kampong Mata-Mata, Gadong in the Brunei-Muara District.
The campaign was launched simultaneously in all four districts. The launch is a collaborative effort between BSM and key stakeholders including the Ministry of Energy, the Petroleum Authority of Brunei Darussalam, District Offices and retailers. Fill Safe, Feel Safe leaflets were also given out to the public and customers.
The objective of the campaign is to create a culture where all customers are aware of the rules at retail stations and voluntarily cooperate and comply. This is supported by caring station attendants who will intervene if anything is found unsafe. Ultimately, BSM wants to achieve an environment where compliance is second nature and retail stations are an incident-free space.
BSM has also produced new posters highlighting the safe practices at retail stations and will release digital media and radio adverts from today, to support the campaign called 'Bagitau saja BSM' with the official social media hashtag of #GitauBSM.
Some of the safe practices at a retail stations are:
- Ensuring that car engines are always switched off while refueling.
- Making payment after refueling is completed.
- Motorcyclist to get off their motorcycle during refueling.
- Only approved Jerry Cans and containers are to be used.
Several nozzle pull-out incidents have recently occurred at retail stations and in all of these cases, customers are found to be non-compliant to the safety practices at retail stations, especially making payment before refueling is completed. It is therefore important to follow instructions given by the pump attendant at all times. Customers are liable to the repair costs which could be in excess of BND1,000.
In addition to the safety messages at retail stations, BSM on behalf of the station personnel would like to seek public cooperation to adhere to the safety rules and regulations to ensure that everyone goes home safely.
This is the third series of the campaign, where the first launch was initiated in June 2015 and the second launch was held in October 2019. Through this campaign, BSM is continuously engaging with the public and retail stations' employees to highlight the importance of safe practices at the retail stations. BSM would also like to encourage active participation from customers and the public to call the BSM Hotline at 2244739 if they see any unsafe acts at retail stations.
