Donations of personal protective equipment (PPE) were handed over by Yang Mulia Awang Haji Azhar bin Haji Yahya, Permanent Secretary (Energy), Ministry of Energy to Yang Mulia Colonel (Rtd) Pengiran Haji Maiddin bin Pengiran Haji Said, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Youth and Sports, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) at the Sukarelawan Belia Operation Centre at Pusat Bahagia, Pulaie in an effort to combat COVID-19.
The PPE were gathered through a donation drive organized by the Safety, Health and Environment National Authority (SHENA) in collaboration with MCYS and Sukarelawan Belia in conjunction with the World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2020 (28 April 2020), which commenced on 30 April 2020 and ended on 13 May 2020. Donations were dropped off at two drive-by points at the Indoor Stadium, Berakas in the Brunei-Muara District and Pusat Belia, Kuala Belait in the Belait District.
The donations are intended to assist efforts in protecting frontliners, including the Sukarelawan Belia, the village heads and their teams as well as frontliners involved in the cleaning and sanitization of public areas such as mosques, markets, graves and cemeteries.
Overall, the donations received and generously contributed by various companies, organisations and members of the public during the two-week donation drive were 11,536 surgical/N95 masks, 4,304 surgical gloves, 3,000 disposable aprons, 1,090 shoe covers, 600 face shields, 579 hand hygiene products, 100 pairs of rubber boots, 78 disposable coveralls/gowns, 56 pairs of eye protection and 15 sets of scrubs. The items are based on guidance from the Ministry of Health.
The donation drive was also supported by Borneo Bulletin and Media Permata as print and digital media partners.
